ADA Carver
Assistant District Attorney Ronald "Ron" Carver was one of the original characters of the show, he worked in tandem with the detectives of the Major Case Squad and due to Goren's empathetic nature towards certain criminals this would often create conflict between them and he once threatened to take his badge away if he sidestepped him again on a case. Carver always wanted strong evidence to close a case but put his faith in juries to convict the right man or woman.
Carver studied and graduated from John Jay College in Brooklyn and has many colleagues and friends in the bar, unfortunately some of these friends become involved with crimes which would often put him in an awkward position with them. The show hinted at that he was married and had a teenage daughter, but it was never mentioned in detail.
After series 5, the character was written out and was replaced by two female ADA's, Patricia Kent ( played by Theresa Randle) and Claudia Shankly ( played by Bridget Regan) and was played by however the writers felt that the show was better without the presence of a ADA department and these two characters were also "fleeting" in appearance***. In one episode Shankly lost her fiancé and claimed that it wasn't only police officers that could close ranks. Like Carver his first replacement, Kent was also strict and didn't want to rely on supposition from the team she also mentioned that Carver had told her that Major Case were "Major Hunch" when it came to convicting. She appeared in two episodes "Tru Luv" and "Country Crossover" in Country Crossover we get a hint that she has young children since during a lunchbreak with the detectives she recieves a call from her childminder. Claudia Shankly appeared in "Masquerade" and "Silencer". Carver was played by actor, Courtney B Vance.
Captain James Deakins
Unlike Ross, Deakins was never "out in the field" and took a more supervisory approach with his detectives he was also not as strict about being kept informed as long as he was able to give some news of their "status" with things eventually to the Chief. Deakins was married with three daughters and one of them he remarked to the mother of a suspect as being a "wild child". Deakins would often go along with both Goren and Logan's suspicions but asked them both to tread carefully when dealing with their suspects, when Logan joined the squad in 2005, Deakins put him at a desk that was nearer his office so he could "keep a watchful eye" on him due to his history.
Deakins suffers from Bells Palsy ( as does Jamey Sheridan who played him), and towards the end of Series 4 he took to wearing an eye patch. In two episodes his hiring of Detective Logan was questioned, but Deakins had every faith in Logan's abilities as a detective even when he accidently killled a young police officer who was in the wrong place at the right time. However despite Logan being cleared of his death, Deakins came under fire from the investigation which was instigated by a former friend who wanted to frame him for putting him in jail for murder*.
Although Deakins was exonnerated by Goren and Eames, he felt it was time to retire to save his squad from embarrassment and tarnishing their reputation as celebrated detectives. He mentioned to Logan that he should have a new desk before his replacement gives it someone else and he left at the end of their case.
Detective G Lynn Bishop
Bishop came to the squad in 2003, and served as temporary partner for Goren when Eames went on maternity leave. She wasn't as "informed"as Eames was about Goren and would often be at a loss with his unorthodox methods of deduction. She was however adept at dialects and knew the difference between "Argentinian Spanish" and "Argentinian Jewish Spanish". Sadly her character wasn't given much chance on the show to develop and fans weren't able to relate to her as much as Eames. It isn't known where she went after leaving the squad when Eames returned. She was played by actress, Samantha Buck.
Detective Carolyn Barek
Barek was an experienced criminal profiler, and due to her working without a partner for several years she tended to talk to herself when examining the crime scene. She was fluent in several languages, including Cantonese, Polish and Russian and her mother was half-polish but wasn't a great cook. After the 9/11 tragedies she was assigned to the FBI and due to the paranoia at the time she found it difficult to work with all their secrecy and security. It wasn't mentioned where she went after Series 5, but hinted at that she transfered or was assigned another posting elsewhere. Actress Annabella Sciorra was said to of left the series due to contractual disagreements.
Nicole Wallace
Nicole Wallace was a main figure in Goren's life, she fastly became his nemesis ( like Moriarty was to Sherlock Holmes) and like a chameleon she was well adept at disguising herself and able to assimilate, manipulate and seduce her way into people's lives without letting them know of her true intentions until it was too late. Although she was a serial killer, Goren thought there was another side to her, a sadder side that expressed itself in yearning for someone to love her unconditionally without betraying her.
We discovered early on that she had been sexually abused by her father, whether he became one of her first murder victims its unclear. However this abuse is one of the reasons for her psychopathy which Goren tried to appease her with in their first interrogation, at first Goren was attracted to this smart woman but he soon began to see through her charades with him and wanted her to admit to her crimes and her true nature to herself.
Prior to living in Oxford, she had been based in Australia, where she had been involved with a man named Owen Bartlett. The relationship had produced a daughter but Nicole's competive and jealous streak got the better of her and she murdered her. During a case in 2004, Goren and Eames discovered this and attempted to arrest and convict her for another crime, by appealing to her girlfriend ( Nicole was bisexual but didn't reallly care for either, both sexes were expendable to her)and adoptive daughter Ella. Again Nicole escaped after killing Ella for betraying her to the police and she didn't return until 2005*.
She was adept at poison's, a trick she had learnt from her mentor, the flamboyant bon vivant, Bernard Freemont. It was he that she served a prison term in a Thailand prison for and also where she learnt low class Thai. She used this language to get rid of "dead weight"student, Mark Bayley in her first appearance episode "Anti Thesis". Goren believes she killed Bernard at the end of the "Slither" episode in 2005 because he also betrayed her by leaving her alone in Thailand.
Nicole unwittingly committed identity theft ( and also murder ) in order to escape a heavy sentence for murdering her daughter when she came to England after burying the remains, this incedent came to light in 2004 in the "Great Barrier" episode. She has been vaccinated like many of New York's citizens against the anthrax virus unlike her victim "Elizabeth Hitchens" whom she had stolen the identity of, a factor which she didn't foresee when using her name.
In 2005, Nicole returned to New York and became involved with the drug addicted Doctor and was attached to his daughter who was likely to develop certain cancers when she reached her teenage years due to exposure to D.E.S when her mother was pregnant with her and given a topical cream with it. The girl stood to inherit a fortune from a law suit which Goren at first thought Nicole wanted. However he soon found out that she was on the right side of the law this time and wanted to protect the girl from her own father, Goren talked with Nicole and told her of her intended's plans to frame her since she already had a record. This time Nicole decided to have the man convicted for his brothers murder instead of killing him and escaped with the girl, but her maternal instincts for her made her give up the child to her Aunt in Pheonix so that she wouldn't suffer the same fate as her own daughter all those years ago, a factor which both saddened and angered her towards Goren and she left an ominous message to him on his mobile at the end, stating that he had taken another thing away from her now.
Nicole didn't return until the summer of 2008, this time though she lost her own life. After being manipulated herself by Goren's old mentor Declan Gage into murdering his brother Frank, who in Cage's madness thought Frank was no good to Goren, he killed her and sent her heart to Goren then told the broken hearted Goren that Nicole had loved him.
Despite Goren's record for arresting and convicting criminals for their crimes, Nicole remains the only one to of slipped through both his and the judicial systems fingers.
* When the Great Barrier episode first aired in 2004, the ending was put to an online voting poll as to whether Nicole should live to see another day or be killed by Goren in a shootout, the US voted her to stay but Australia was given the same voting poll when they showed it there and they voted her to die because of her daughter's murder. She was played by actress, Olivia D'abo.
Detective Nola Falacci
Falacci arrived at the squad in 2007, she was temporary assigned to cover Detective Wheelers leave overseas ( actress Julianne Nicholson was pregnant at the time-see page). She appeared to be very abrasive and hot tempered when dealing with suspects or family of murder victims, which gave rise to conflict with Captain Ross. However she got along with Logan whom explained to Ross that she was perfect for him since he prefered to be the more diplomatic one for a change, he even wanted to have a drink with her after a hard case but she declined due to her husband and children waiting for her at home.
Prior to being at the squad she had been based at Brooklyn North and after leaving the squad when Wheeler returned, Logan mentioned to Wheeler that she was at Quantico using her skills with the FBI. She was played by actress and singer Alicia Witt ( her self titled album is available to purchase on itunes).
*Refer to episodes: "My Good Name", "On Fire", "The Good" and "To The Bone" again.
**Nicole's Episodes were: "Anti-Thesis", "A Person of Interest", "Great Barrier", "Grow", and "Frame", her name is mentioned in the Series 3 episode "Pas De Deux" when she escapes a jail sentence and she commits an offscreen murder in "Slither" and makes a brief appearance in the episode although we only see "her" from behind as a "vision" for Goren.
*** Series 8 episode "Identity Crisis" featured another ADA appearance , Damon Whitney played by Wolé Parks, and "All In" also had a female ADA although the IMDB hasn't listed her character in the cast list of that episode.
