Detective Mike Logan was one of the original characters from the Mothership series, Law and Order back in 1990. Mike was mentored by Detective Max Creevey, however, their partnership was short lived due to Max being murdered on duty. He was later partnered with Lennie Briscoe ( played by the Late Jerry Orbach ) and their friendship became the staple of Law and Order. Mike was born to an Irish-American Catholic family, his mother was an alcholic and frequently abusive towards her son. Mike had a hot temper and in 1994 it got him into trouble when he punched a homophobic city councilor outside the courthouse when he was provoked by the man, Logan was sent to Staten Island for the incident and a movie length feature was created "Law and Order: Exiled" in 1998 in which Mike Logan was re-instated to another division after aiding an arrest.
In 2004 Mike Logan teamed up with Detectives Goren and Eames during a case they were working on which involved his current girlfriend, a prison nurse, who was in danger from the corrupt prison guards whom had already killed one of their own to keep him from talking in his new job about their "secret prisoner scheme". The case brought Mike Logan's recruitment to the Major Case Squad in 2005 and he was first partnered with criminal profiler, Detective Carolyn Barek* ( Annabelle Sciorra). At the end of his first season, Mike became unwittingly involved in the shooting of a young policeman, who had been fostered by a woman who recruited her boys into murder and thievery, since this young man wasn't part of her scam she placed him into the line of fire on purpose and although Mike was cleared of the shooting, Captain Deakins' own career came under threat as a result**.
Under the new captain in 2006, Logan was partnered with Detective Megan Wheeler and due to their age differences, their partnership became a happy balance. In early 2007, Mike dated his next door neighbour, Holly which unfortunately was short lived, as she was found dead outside their building on the night of their second date. Believing she was murdered, Logan wanted to investigate her death himself since he was frustrated by his local precinct's lack of enthusiasm and flippancy, Ross brought Detective Eames in to aid Wheeler and Mike tried to find out how and why she died.
At the start of Series 7, Mike Logan was partnered with Nola Falacci as Detective Wheeler was overseas ( see Wheeler entry) and the two seemed to work well. During a heavy case, Falacci asked why Logan wasn't the man she had heard about, Logan told her that his time on Staten Island had matured him and taught him that he now chose which battles to fight. As the season progressed and Wheeler returned to a more diplomatic Logan, the detective became more and more dissolutioned with what he saw during the cases they worked on and with the force in general, in one case he became personally involved and invested in a young man whom he had trained to contain his anger but was fastly becoming a killer due to his boxing manager's jealousy and re-training.
Towards the end of the season Mike got heavily involved with a case involving a female DA, Terri Driver who was running a mayoral campaign but had a corrupt and co-ersive history, Logan was determined to bring her down during their second encounter since she had put an innocent man to jail again. Both Logan and Wheeler got the man pardoned, however Mike's involvement with Terri Driver again backfired on Wheeler ( see Wheeler entry). Mike Logan decided to take some leave from the force after this incident and it isn't known as to where he went***. Logan was replaced in Series 8 by Detective Zach Nichols.

***Mike Logan was played by Actor, Chris Noth ( Sex and The City ), Dick Wolf stated that there would always be a place for Chris in the franchise and gave Chris an open contract in which he may return as Mike Logan should he want to at a later date, so rather than killing Logan off, the character was given an open-ended story of quitting the force for the time being.
