Detective Wheeler first arrived at Major Case in 2006, she was previously working on a Task Force project on money laundering with Captain Ross and when he was given the captaincy, he brought her with him. She was first partnered with Mike Logan and at first they seemed wary of each other, but as their first year as partners progressed they began to trust each others judgement and her youth was an advantage to Logan. Wheeler was raised by her mother single handedly when her father, who was lawyer disappeared when she was a girl. In the spring of 2007, whilst working on a case Wheeler got a tip-off about her father being involved in some dealings with the mob and its possible he left to protect his family and was murdered by them.
In late 2007, Wheeler had to go back to her money laundering task force as their were a few "loose ends" on that case that hadn't been settled***. When she returned in 2008, she told Logan and Captain Ross that she was engaged to be married. We later meet her fiancé**who was an Industrialist and involved in many charities. However, it later transpires that he isn't all he seems and at the end of a heavy case for her and Logan involving a former adversary of Logans, DA Terri Driver-Wheeler watches tearfully as he is arrested by the FBI for racketeering and money laundering and his possible connections of a crime syndicate.
In season 8, Wheeler is teamed up with Detective Zach Nichols as Detective Logan has left the force and she is wary of him due to her circumstances with both her ex-fiancé and the fact that she recently lost her working partner too. Ross believes that she may be harbouring some mistrust towards certain things because of what happened. Wheeler also tells both Detective Nichols, who has already picked up on her situation given that she is trying desperately hard to hide it under baggy coats even indoors, and Captain Ross that she is pregnant* with her former fiancés child and that she has no intention of letting him know about it or having him involved in its upbringing. Later on in the series she is seen talking to FBI agents about her ex and says to Ross that she is worried about this since she doesn't know anything and is also afraid for her career as a result, however, Ross reassures her that she will be okay.
During the series, Wheeler grows to respect her partners unconventional methods and her initial wariness subsides, she even calls him by his first name which she didn't seem to do with Logan. At the end of the series, heavily pregnant she goes into labour in Ross' office and is driven to hospital by Detective Eames. It is later announced that she gives birth to a girl named Margo Jane.
