Danny Ross arrived at Major Case in 2006, he took over the captaincy from James Deakins when Deakins decided to retire from the force. Ross had previously worked on a Task Force project with his protegé, Megan Wheeler and when he was promoted he brought her with him. In his first season he had strong opinions about both Goren and Logan, claiming that Goren had a "reputation for over thinking" and Logan had a "tendency to overreact" those opinions have long since subsided and is somewhat protective of all of his detective team, he also wanted to be kept in the loop of the investigations of his detectives.
Unlike Deakins he is often out with his detectives at a crime scene, Ross has been married and has two boys aged 12 and 15 and is very protective of them, he also once had romantic feelings for former police officer and true-crime writer, Kathy Jarrow but she rejected him for a gay judge whom she later murdered, he briefly let his feelings for her cloud his judgement in investigating the disappearance of her new philandering husband. In series 7 he dated Elizabeth Rodgers the NYPD M.E, their relationship hasn't been addressed further in series 8.
He was once Zach Nichols partner and in the old days they were a good team, although he confesses to Nichols in series 8 that he used to be threatened with suspension every month from their captain due to Nichols behaviour on the job. Currently his relationship with Nichols is strained, but they have a deep respect for one another.
Captain Ross will leave our in the Season 9 two parter, actor and writer Eric Borgosian is leaving the series also. His character is going to be replaced by actress Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio.
Update: Captain Danny Ross is murdered in the first episode of the season opener, whilst working on an undercover mission for the FBI on an arms deal, his cover was to help them. However, he was photographed with FBI agent Stahl, and was killed by one of the arms dealers. Before he was murdered, Ross hired a replacement partner for Zach Nichols, Serena Stevens [profile coming soon].
